**Save Search
Adds a search panel to Baldur's Gate 3's Load Game and Save Game screens. Type a few letters and the panel filters every save you own by name, by playthrough, by location or by date. Click a result and the game's own list jumps to that save — the group opens, the row highlights, the preview updates and the Load button arms. The mod reads the game's save list and never writes to it: no save file, folder or name is ever changed.
If you have hundreds of saves across dozens of playthroughs, the vanilla Load screen is a scrollbar and a lot of patience. Saves are grouped by playthrough, the groups are collapsed, and there is no search box. Finding "that camp save from last November on the Durge run" means opening group after group. Save Search puts the whole list in one flat, filterable panel — 800 saves narrowed to three as you type — and then does the scrolling for you.
Why a search panel rather than a save manager? There are good external programs that list and rename your save folders outside the game. This is the opposite approach: it is in the game, on the screen you are already looking at, and it changes nothing on disk. It finds the save and hands it to the vanilla Load button.
No sidecar, no external tool. A single pak. Everything runs in-game.

How to use — please read
SAVE SEARCH REQUIRES MOD CONFIGURATION MENU (MCM), LOADED ABOVE IT. The hotkey and every option live there.
**
- Open the Load Game screen (main menu, or ESC → Load in game) — or the Save Game screen in game.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+F. The panel opens. On any other screen the hotkey does nothing at all, silently.
- Type. The top box matches anything: the save's name, the playthrough, the location, the date as shown. The second box matches the playthrough (character) name only. The three date boxes take a day, a month and a year; leave any of them blank for "any".
- Click a result. The save is selected in the vanilla list exactly as if you had clicked it there: the preview pane updates, the Load Game button becomes available, the save's playthrough group opens, and the list scrolls to the highlighted row.
- Press the game's own Load Game button. Save Search never loads anything itself — deliberately.
**On the Save Game screen, take care. Selecting an existing save there turns the game's main button into Overwrite, which replaces that save. The panel warns you in its status line whenever you are on that screen. Save Search itself never overwrites anything.

Features
**
- One flat, searchable list of every save you own, newest first, numbered, across every playthrough — including the ones the vanilla screen keeps collapsed. Autosaves, quicksaves, manual saves and Honour Mode saves are all in it.
- Search anything. The main box matches the save's title, its playthrough, its location and its date text at once, and multiple words all have to match, so karlach camp narrows harder than either word alone.
- Search by playthrough. A dedicated box matches only the character/campaign name that the vanilla screen uses as a group header — the fastest way to isolate one run out of dozens.
- Search by date. Separate day, month and year boxes. 11 in the month box and 2024 in the year box gives you every save from November 2024, across every playthrough.
- Jump to the save in the vanilla list. BG3 builds the save list lazily and exposes no "scroll to this item" call to mods, so Save Search locates the row by scrolling and checking, then places it near the top. Where it lands is adjustable in MCM.
- Step through matches. Prev/Next walk the filtered results, selecting each one, so you can eyeball several candidates in the preview pane without hunting through the list yourself. The list follows along unless you turn off Scroll the game's list to the selected save.
- Honour Mode and damaged saves are flagged in the results, with the game's own validity marker (a short engine tag such as ModsMissing) where a save is too old, too new or otherwise unloadable.
- It reads; it does not write. Save Search touches no save file, no folder, no .lsv, no screenshot, no name. Its own settings live in MCM's per-profile store, not in your saves.
- No polling. Nothing runs per frame. The panel is built the first time you open it.
- No game files replaced. Save Search ships no XAML and overrides nothing, so it does not fight other interface mods.

Requirements
**
- Baldur's Gate 3, Patch 8 or later.
- BG3 Script Extender, version 29 or later — required. https://github.com/Norbyte/bg3se
- Mod Configuration Menu (Nexus 9162) — required, v1.40.1 or later (the pak declares it as a hard dependency), and it must load above Save Search.
- A mod manager such as BG3 Mod Manager — Save Search must be active in your load order.
- Windows. Script Extender is Windows-only.
**Keyboard and mouse only. The panel is not controller-navigable; the vanilla screens are untouched.
**
**
Installation
**
- Unzip and copy SaveSearch.pak into %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods.
- In BG3 Mod Manager, refresh, drag Save Search into the Active list, and put Mod Configuration Menu above it.
- Save Load Order to File, and launch.
- Go to Load Game and press Ctrl+Shift+F.
**When uninstalling, deactivate it in your mod manager and export the load order BEFORE deleting the pak. Deleting a pak that is still listed in your load order makes BG3 reject the whole list — that is standard BG3 behaviour and applies to every mod.
Full details, troubleshooting and the settings reference are in the included README and INSTALL documents.

The settings
All in MCM, under Save Search. The hotkey appears on MCM's own Hotkeys page.
**
- Enable Save Search — master switch.
- Toggle the search panel — default Ctrl+Shift+F, rebindable.
- Open Save Search now — a button that does the same as the hotkey.
- Scroll the game's list to the selected save — on by default.
- Also search the location name — on by default.
- Date order shown by the game — Day/Month/Year or Month/Day/Year.
- Scroll landing position — how far below the top of the list the selected save comes to rest.
- Maximum result rows — how many rows the panel draws.
**
Known limitations
**
- Keyboard and mouse only.
- The list may visibly scroll while it searches — BG3 exposes no way to jump straight to an item. It usually settles in a second or two, and it always stops on its own, but on a very long list with the target far down it can take up to about half a minute. The save is selected and loadable the whole time.
- Row titles for autosaves, quicksaves and Honour Mode saves are shown in English whatever your game language; those titles are generated by the engine rather than stored in the save. Manual save names, playthrough names and locations are shown exactly as the game shows them.
- Save Search never loads or overwrites a save. By design: it selects, and you press the game's button. On the Save Game screen that button is Overwrite — read it before you press it.
- The main box matches the date as the game reports it. If you set Date order to Month/Day/Year the panel re-orders the date it displays, so typing the displayed date may not match; use the day/month/year boxes to filter by date.

Compatibility
Save Search replaces no game interface file, so it does not conflict with interface mods. It is client-side, adds no server or Osiris code, and writes nothing into savegames — safe to add or remove at any time.

AI use disclosure
Save Search was developed with substantial assistance from an AI coding assistant (Claude, by Anthropic), used for code authoring (Script Extender Lua and the MCM blueprint), research, and its documentation. The mod contains no AI-generated art, images, audio, or other media — only code and text. All design decisions, in-game testing, and the final release were done by the author.
