**You might also be interested in Best in Party Skills, a similar mod by imCioco that does not require script extender (I think it is made using the mod tools that didn't exist when I was active) that was written more recently.
I think the only thing my mod does better is that it's usable in Multiplayer! See also Use Best Sleight of Hand by jonhinkerton which does the same thing for Sleight of Hand checks. **

Installation**:
Can be Installed mid playthrough.
This mod requires the Baldur's Gate 3 Script Extender by Norbyte. Please follow the instructions there for installation help.

There are 3 main versions:
"Use Highest Modifier Mod" automatically adds invisible buffs to make your lead character have the equal to the highest skill modifier in your party when you enter a conversation.
"Use Highest Charisma Skill" automatically adds charisma skill buffs when you enter a conversation.
The above two versions should be safe to uninstall out of conversations, but don't really work properly in multiplayer.
"UHMM with toggle and compatibility" requires you to cast a spell (find it in your character sheet if not automatically added) before entering dialogue, that grants a long rest buff that automatically adds skill buffs when you enter a conversation.
That long rest buff can be dispelled with the associated spell.
I think this version should work in multiplayer now, too. (needs testing in 3-4 player games - let me know if you have any issues)
However, I think this one isn't safe to uninstall mid-playthrough since it modifies the abilities (like jump, throw, sneak, dip) that all characters get, and I know that bad things happen if the game isn't able to find missing skills.
User alterNERDtive says that removing the "allow assistance" buff before uninstalling the mod could make uninstallation work properly now!
User Alvilda82 confirmed that if you brick your save, a reinstall should fix it. Thanks for testing!
"UHMM with toggle" in the archives is as above, but is less compatible with other mods. Going to mention it just in case there are issues with the above version that I somehow brought back.😅
What does it do?
This mod sneakily adds some buffs to your lead character just before they enter a conversation.
In checks where it's possible to add a skill proficiency bonus to (ie, athletics, acrobatics), you will have the highest modifier in your party.
For pure strength/dex/con etc ability checks and saves, this mod does nothing at the moment.
Note that using items or skills that grant you proficiency or raise your stats mid dialogue will skyrocket your roll modifier to the point that it's absurd - my script is only able to calculate things before entering a conversation and I'd rather give too much than too little 😔
(ie, Hill Giant Strength, Astral Knowledge. Guidance and Enhance Ability are fine.)
There are probably a few more edge cases but I think the mod is in a good enough position to be released and to collect feedback.
