Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants - Backgrounds & Feats
Backgrounds and feats from the Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants sourcebook, for Baldur's Gate 3.
Works on its own. With DnD 5.5e All-in-One BEYOND loaded, this mod's versions of the Giant feats replace that mod's feats of the same names, so each feat shows up once - load this mod after it.
Backgrounds
- Giant Foundling - proficiency in Intimidation and Survival, plus the Strike of the Giants feat.
- Rune Carver - proficiency in History and Perception, plus the Rune Shaper feat.
Strike of the Giants
Needs Martial Weapon proficiency (or the Giant Foundling background). Choose one of six strikes. Spend a use (they come back on a rest) when you hit with a weapon to add its effect. Saving throws use DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Constitution modifier, whichever is higher.
- Cloud - 1d4 thunder damage; on a failed Wisdom save you turn invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack or cast a spell.
- Fire - 1d10 fire damage.
- Frost - 1d6 cold damage; on a failed Constitution save the target can't move.
- Hill - 1d6 bludgeoning damage; on a failed Strength save the target is knocked prone.
- Stone - 1d6 force damage; on a failed Strength save the target is pushed back.
- Storm - 1d6 lightning damage; on a failed Constitution save the target has disadvantage on attack rolls.
Rune Shaper
Needs the Spellcasting feature or the Rune Carver background. You learn Comprehend Languages (cast it free, or with a spell slot) and choose runes - one at first, two from level 5, three from level 13. Each rune gives a 1st-level spell you can cast with a spell slot or once for free between rests.
Choosing your spellcasting ability: use the Choose Rune Shaper Ability action on your hotbar to pick Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma. It works the same whether you took the feat at a level-up or got it from the Rune Carver background, and you can do it any time after the game loads. Until you choose, your rune spells use the game's default ability.
- Cloud - Fog Cloud
- Death - Inflict Wounds
- Dragon - Chromatic Orb
- Enemy - Disguise Self
- Fire - Burning Hands
- Friend - Speak with Animals
- Frost - Armor of Agathys
- Hill - Goodberry
- Journey - Longstrider
- King - Command
- Mountain - Entangle
- Stone - Sanctuary
- Storm - Thunderwave
The six Giant feats
Each gives +1 to an ability score and needs the matching Strike of the Giants. With Script Extender installed, a feat stays locked on the level-up screen until you have its Strike.
- Ember of the Fire Giant - fire resistance, and Searing Ignition: a burst of 1d8 + proficiency bonus fire damage that blinds on a failed Dexterity save (half damage on a success).
- Fury of the Frost Giant - cold resistance, and Frigid Retaliation: a reaction when you are hit, dealing 1d8 + proficiency bonus cold damage and stopping the attacker's movement on a failed Constitution save.
- Guile of the Cloud Giant - Cloudy Escape: a reaction when you are hit that gives you resistance to the damage and a free Misty Step.
- Keenness of the Stone Giant - darkvision to at least 60 ft, and Stone Throw: a bonus action ranged spell attack (60 ft) for 1d10 force damage that knocks prone on a failed Strength save.
- Soul of the Storm Giant - Maelstrom Aura: a bonus action that gives lightning and thunder resistance, +2 AC and disadvantage to attackers, and halves the speed of enemies within 10 ft.
- Vigor of the Hill Giant - Bulwark: a reaction that helps you resist being pushed or knocked prone; and Iron Stomach: extra healing on a short rest equal to your Constitution modifier + proficiency bonus.
How this differs from the book
These feats are tuned slightly above the book, based on player feedback that they felt underpowered. The differences:
- Strike of the Giants gives one more use than the book (proficiency bonus + 1) and has no once-per-turn limit.
- Rune Shaper rounds your number of runes up; the book rounds down.
- Maelstrom Aura also gives +2 AC, and its slowing effect has no saving throw.
- Keenness of the Stone Giant sets your darkvision to at least 60 ft instead of adding 60 ft to what you already have.
- Cloud Strike's invisibility works against everyone, not just the creature you struck.
Requirements
- BG3 Script Extender (v22 or newer) enforces the feat prerequisites. Without it everything else works, but those feats stay open to everyone.
- DnD 5.5e All-in-One BEYOND is optional.
